The Democrats have spent years seething over their minority status. For good reason, as they had a nearly forty year reign in Congress ended by Newt Gingrich. Power is a legendary intoxicant. Well now they have a leg up, and they want to make sure it stays that way. So what does a good populist do? Analyze the reasons why you weren't so popular during those dark days of the 80s and 90s. What changed? What was the One Big Thing influencing public opinion that did not exist prior to the dark days? Evil Talk Radio.
When Ronald Reagan (PBUH) got rid of the "Fairness Doctrine" he opened the door for Rush and a host of competitors to take a previously dead medium, namely A.M. radio, and use the power of the Marketplace to convert it into an 800 pound gorilla in the Arena of Ideas. This really sucked for the Left, because all of those 60s radicals had finally secured near monopoly of all commercial and public broadcasting. I know, there was no "vast Left-wing conspiracy", it was just a natural outcome of the parochial nature of the University System.
So now we have a Democrat Congress, and they want to revive the "Fairness Doctrine" because the Left controlling PBS, NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN, NPR and nearly every major newspaper in America isn't good enough. They want to control the debate, and the only way is to silence Talk Radio. Or so they think.

“I think the Fairness Doctrine ought to be there and I also think equal time doctrine ought to come back. I mean these are the people who wiped out one of the most profound changes in the balance of the media is when the conservatives got rid of the equal time requirements. And the result is that, you know, they’ve been able to squeeze down and squeeze out opinion of opposing views and I think it’s been an important transition in the imbalance of our public…”

Excuse me, but who exactly wants to "squeeze down and squeeze out" opposing opinions? The Democrats believe that enforcing this B.S. anti First Amendment measure will hobble individual media outlets by imposing unnatural speech codes that God Himself (am I still allowed to say that?) only knows how the application thereof will be applied.

“It’s time to reinstitute the Fairness Doctrine,” said Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.). “I have this old-fashioned attitude that when Americans hear both sides of the story, they’re in a better position to make a decision.”

Our favorite Saddam-lovin' Senator puts the lie to the issue. These bastards know full well that Americans get both sides of the issues. That's what they hate. That's what they want to stop. They get mighty peeved when a Limbaugh or an Ingraham or a Prager or a Medved take their positions and shred them like confetti. It's NOT FAIR! It's also a threat to the tenuous hold they have on power. If it wasn't for Talk Radio the Illegal Alien Amnesty bill would be out of the Senate by now.
Of course these bastards misunderestimate the American people. We are not going back to the days of Uncle Walter telling us "That's the way it is". We've gotten used to this free speech, free thought, freedom of association paradigm, and if these bastards manage to shut down talk radio they will have to come after the Blogosphere next. I'm sure they're already studying the Chinese.

Immigration

We need to band together on this one. Fortunately the Senators from Texas both voted no, one needed a little persuading though. America is changing and not for the better. If we do not get a hold of what is going on and remind our elected officials who is in charge here we will be living in a socialistic society paying 50% of our wages as taxes and giving up more of our rights than anyone has a right to.

Call your Senators and let them know that no bill is better than this bill.

Well I take time off from the doing's of the world and look, we trying for amnesty for the illegals, and Paris Hilton goes to jail. That's it? This is what we spend our time on?
This amnesty thing is puzzling though................they really think that the American public wants this?? Seventy five % say no they don't. Write your Senator and say VOTE NO.

Nothing like taking a couple of weeks off to recharge and refresh. No TV news, no blogs, no forums, no talk radio. Not to mention that the computer was in the shop and I CANNOT type on a laptop.
Anyway when you go into that type of hibernation you begin to realize how our country can get so crapped up. Lots going on, don't pay attention, get your quick hit from the MSM and you begin to see like the average American.................everything ok..............no problem................look at that bad conservative, what a great job Congress is doing, what bullsh%*. Time to get back to looking at the world. We do still have a world........yes????

Did Murtha violate House ethics rules?

A published report that U.S. Rep. Jack Murtha “threatened to withdraw support from a defense project” after a spat with fellow U.S. Rep. Todd Tiahrt may have placed him afoul of House ethics rules, research by the Majority Accountability Project (majorityap.com) has found.
The Code of Official Conduct of the U.S. House of Representatives states that a Member “may not condition the inclusion of language to provide funding for a congressional earmark…on any vote cast by another Member.”
Another memorandum from the House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct states that Members “are prohibited from taking or withholding any official action on the basis of…support of the involved individuals,” further noting that those rules apply to “all official actions taken by Members and staff, including with regard to legislation.”
According to the May 8, 2007, report in the Hill newspaper, Murtha was irate that Tiahrt voted against a $23 million project in Murtha’s district. Murtha allegedly retaliated “by unleashing a loud, finger-jabbing, spittle-spraying piece of his mind” against Tiahrt, threatening to withdraw his support for a project that would create between 800-1,000 jobs in the Kansas Republican’s district.
In addition to the advisory opinion from the House ethics committee, the Code of Ethics for Government Service states that government officials should “never discriminate unfairly by the dispensing of special favors or privileges to anyone.”
Murtha has been a controversial figure for more than 30 years.
In the early 1980’s, Murtha was named an “unindicted co-conspirator” in the Abscam investigation, an FBI sting operation where agents posed as Arab sheiks and offered bribes to a host of elected officials. Six members of Congress - one Senator and five U.S. Representatives - were later convicted of conspiracy and taking bribes.
More recently, questions were raised about Murtha’s relationship with the lobbying firm of his brother, Robert “Kit” Murtha. According a 2005 Los Angeles Times study, Murtha authored legislation that “benefited at least 10 companies represented” by Kit Murtha’s firm, costing taxpayers almost $21 million dollars. Another employee of the firm was Carmen Scialabba, “who worked for Rep. Murtha for 27 years.”
Scialabba’s name surfaced in another report as well, after he founded a non-profit agency in Johnstown, Pa, in 2001. “The next year, with Scialabba still on his staff,” the Washington Post reported, “Murtha secured a half-million dollars for the group, the Pennsylvania Association for Individuals With Disabilities (PAID), and put another $150,000 in the pipeline for 2003.”
In June, 2006, the Washington Times reported that Murtha “leaned on U.S. Navy officials to sign a contract to transfer the Hunters Point Shipyard to the city of San Francisco.” According to that report, “Laurence Pelosi, nephew of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, at the time was an executive of the company which owned the rights to the land.”
Earlier this year, Murtha was reportedly at the center of a controversy over Pelosi’s request for “a bigger, swankier government airplane than her Republican predecessor had used for trips back to her home.”
According to the San Francisco Chroncile, Murtha intervened on Pelosi’s behalf with Pentagon officials. “But he denied pressuring the Pentagon,” Edward Epstein wrote. "I don't need to pressure them,” Murtha told the reporter. “I just tell them what they need to do.”
The same story contained what some may consider a veiled threat by Murtha, when he criticized Pentagon staff. “They're making a mistake when they leak it because (Pelosi) decides on allocations for them,'' Murtha said.
Several newspapers, including the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Los Angeles Times, questioned whether controversies surrounding Murtha damaged his ultimately-unsuccessful bid for Majority Leader at the start of the 110th Congress

Tom Coburn (R.-Okla.) is set to introduce three commonsense amendments to the Water Resources Development Act to prioritize federal spending.A statement from his office said, "By taking up this bill before emergency funding has been provided to U.S. troops on the frontlines, Congress has failed to take care of national security needs before addressing its own parochial interests."According to information from his website, his first amendment to WRDC will provide emergency funding for U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan without unnecessary pork barrel spending and without mandating surrender or retreat.His second amendment will require that the needs of all Louisiana residents displaced by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita are met before spending money to design or construct a visitors center near Morgan City, Louisiana.This third amendment to the bill will require that the residents of Sacramento be protected from the threat of floods before federal funds are spent to add sand to beaches in San Diego.If you have a minute, you should call or email your senators to ask them to support Coburn's commonsense proposals.
